and ANOTHER snow day...plus a recipe ;)

Now don't get me wrong. I absolutely ADORE having my kids home with me. I L-O-V-E starting our day at a slower pace and am happy to let the kids sleep in as long as they please. These snow days have been great. We've enjoyed our time out in the snow together and had fun getting crafty. As long as I keep my kids busy, life is great. Well we are on day FOUR of what has now turned into a "snow week"! There was no school again today. Like I said before, I love having my kids home, as long as I'm prepared to keep them busy and engaged. I think with boys especially (at least with mine), it's really important to keep them entertained or pure chaos and mayhem will break out at any given moment.

Even though we've stayed busy, we've still had our fair share of those "mayhem-like"
moments...

I really thought that today everything would go back to "life as usual" though, but no...we were blessed with yet another snow day. I'll be honest, it caught me off guard. I wasn't prepared for it at all! I didn't have anything fun or exciting planned, so in order to keep the peace (and my sanity) I had to pull out the big guns. Yes, today I resorted to....GRAMMY!! Over the river and through the woods to Grammy's house we went!

Before heading to Grammy's house though we first stopped by the nursing home to visit with my Grandpa. Because of all the snow got, we hadn't been to see him in a while. He has good days and bad days, so we never know how he'll respond when we get to see him.

Today was a good day. Actually it was a GREAT day! His eyes lit up when he saw all of us enter his room!

I am grateful for the moments with him when he is like his old self--like the Grandpa I remember and love dearly!! Today was one of those days! Praise the Lord!!

After our visit, we headed over to Grammy's house.

I had brought along sack lunches for all of us, which the kids immediately wanted to dig into.

My sister KK hadn't left for class yet, so she was able to eat lunch with us as well.

The kids then had fun playing, hanging out, (and messing up) someone else's house for a change!

We played a few rounds of Skipbo too before it was time to head home in order for the babies to get their naps!

When we got home the boys and I got cozy and then played the game "Spot it!"

It was a gift from Santa this Christmas but we hadn't had a chance to open it yet.

I have to tell you...it's an AWESOME game. The boys thought is was great, and even I was thoroughly entertained playing it!

A great pick by Santa, indeed;)

Oh, and just in case you are ever looking for a fabulous...and I mean F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S coffee cake recipe, jot this one down. I made it for our Sunday School class a few weeks ago, but just kept forgetting to post the recipe here.

I made it again the other night for our family. This time we ate it for dessert!
It's seriously delicious and SUPER EASY too!
ENJOY!

If this snow doesn't melt, I'm going to be big as a house because I can't stop baking :) We were on a 3 hour delay today and 2 hour tomorrow.

Glad you found something to do :) My dad called yesterday to ask if I needed anything. I said "Yes, A sitter!" haha

Jenny-

I know what you mean about the snow! I couldn't believe most of the charlotte area schools were closed yet again today. Thank GOODNESS for Grammy's for a little change of scenery.

Btw- that coffee cake looks delicious!

Looks like you still managed to have a good day and so sweet to get a visit in with your Grandpa and no alarms went off by the kids this time lol!

That coffee cake looks divine! I'm going to have to try that sometime next week! Thanks for sharing!
I have two questions - love your clothes that you always wear. If you don't mind sharing where you got that shirt at your wearing with your grandpa - love it!
Also, do you make all of Sophie's knot dresses?

Your kids are going to remember this week forever! When I was 9 my state had a big snow and ice storm and we were out of school for a week and it was the best week ever! We built snowmen, forts, drank lots of hot chocolate, played cards. I remember having so much fun with my family and close neighbor kids -we still talk about it every now and then.

Enjoy,
Ashley

You are such a creative Mom!! My guys tell me we did all sorts of things like that, but I just don't remember...I must be getting old, ha!

I'm so glad you had a great visit with your grandfather. I always have to prepare myself when I bring the kiddos to see my grandmother too because I never know quite what to expect. It's so hard, but it makes the good visits seem really good!

Oh, I always love seeing posts about your grandpa. Seeing them get older is rough but he's probably so grateful for your visits even if he may not always seem like it. I'm glad it was a great day with him. Wow, lots of snow days...hang in there!! :) You are doing a great job of keeping them entertained.

I'm wishing I had some of that coffee cake this morning.
