"Happy Party Day!"

Yesterday afternoon, we celebrated Riley's 5th birthday
with a fun Gingerbread themed party.

Ri's actual birthday isn't until December 22nd, but because that's so close to Christmas we decided to celebrate a week early. I've always said December birthdays can be hard. Finding the time to squeeze in {another} party in an already over booked, over scheduled month is difficult. Last year we planned his party on a weekday, instead of on a busy weekend, and it seemed to work. This year we decided to do the same.

So yesterday, Shane stayed home from work, and we had a few of our close friends and neighbors over to celebrate our precious Christmas/birthday boy!!!

Because we went with the whole Gingerbread Theme...

we started our party by reading one of Riley's favorite books...
"The Gingerbread Man".

Then it was time to roll up our sleeves...

and get messy while decorating our little gingerbread houses.

Ri's cousin Makayla gets busy!

Our neighbor Brennan

My friend Serena and her daughter Alaethia...

Melanie and sweet Darcy

Amy and "big" Sophie!

Our little Sophie!

Mommy and her precious birthday boy!

We played a quick game of..."You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man"

I took a box and painted it to look like an oven. One child was named the gingerbread boy and one was the fox. The child who was the gingerbread boy crawled into the box. On the count of three, all the kids would yell " Run, Run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man". Then the "gingerbread man" would jump out of the "oven" and run to the other side of the room hoping to NOT be tagged/eaten by "the hungry fox"! This game would have worked better outside where there was a little more room to run. Unfortunately, it was like 20 something degree's yesterday, so we made do playing it in our little living room;)

Daddy (aka..another big kid himself) had to get in on the fun too.

He wanted to be the "gingerbread boy" and EVERYONE else was the hungry fox.

Needless to say... he definitely got eaten!

I think everyone had their fill of candy and sugary sweets while decorating their gingerbread houses, BUT...

they still had room for CAKE and ICE CREAM!

Singing "Happy Birthday" to our sweet little guy!

Make a wish birthday boy!

Time to tear into those PRESENTS!!!!

Riley...
You are our sweetest and most PRECIOUS Christmas present EVER!!
XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

What a great birthday party Jenny! And what a fun themed birthday! It is so hard to plan birthday's around Christmas too. Poor Davis being right after the New Year hasn't had a party yet - this year we're doing a big one. I can't wait! I can't believe our boys are 5! Where has that time gone? Happy Birthday to your sweet Riley!

Those are some of the cutest pictures!

I totally agree that it can be very difficult to have a birthday intertwined with the holidays. My grandmother's always was 2 days after Christmas and we always tried to make it extra special so she wouldn't feel like she got the short end of the stick! :)

Even here, we have a September, two October, two November and THREE January birthdays--whew!

Looks like his birthday was wonderful, though. Mommy did a great job!

We all had SO much fun at the party! Everything was so perfect & the theme was fantastic! My girls have been asking for weeks when we were going to make a Gingerbread house...and I kept saying "over Christmas break!"...along with a million other things...so hopefully we can check that off of our list now!
Happy Birthday sweet Ri-Ri! You are such a blessing & we had fun celebrating with you!
