Celebrating Summer Solstice

Today was summer solstice, which means it’s the longest day of the year. It also marks the first official day of summer! Even though we've been enjoying summer break for a few weeks now, I still thought it would be fun to celebrate the official beginning of summer!

The boys helped me make this "Cool Summer Chart" yesterday afternoon.

Each number has a fun activity tucked inside. Every morning when the kids wake up, they will take turns pulling out the slips of paper and discover what our fun activity will be for that day.  Today we opened day one--since today is officially day one of summer!!

Today's slip read..."Celebrate Summer Solstice"

And this is how we celebrated...

Sophie was the first one up this morning, so she helped me make everyone a "Sunny Day Breakfast"!

Sunshine pancakes, fruit, turkey bacon, and eggs--cooked sunny side up--of course, were on the menu.

After breakfast, we beat the heat by heading to the Y pool with our good friends.

We enjoyed several hours of fun in the sun before heading home for naps!

While the babies napped, the boys and I got busy in the kitchen.

They helped me make strawberry shortcake, which we planned to enjoy later in the evening.

Nothing says summer like homemade shortcake

topped with cool whip and fresh strawberries-right;)

While our cake was baking in the oven...
the kids had fun making a tissue paper stain glass window

We hung them in the window

and the kids loved how pretty they looked as the sun shone through.

And because we were celebrating the L-O-N-G-E-S-T day of the year,

we decided to head outside again after dinner,

and enjoy some time at our neighborhood park.

After getting nice and sweaty from playing at park,
we walked home and everyone jumped right in the tub!

We got in our cozy pj's and ended our summer fun day by indulging in our strawberry shortcake!

 Happy Summer Solstice Everyone!

Celebrating Father's Day---Minute to Win It Style;)

What a GREAT day we had celebrating all the special men in our lives.

I know we are truly blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful, passionate, and godly men! I praise the Lord for each of them and for the vital role they play in my life, and now in the lives of each one of my children!

We woke up Sunday morning and the kids helped me make a special Father's Day breakfast for Shane. We enjoyed Sausage and Hash brown casserole, warm apple coffee cake, and fresh fruit.
The kids did a great job and it was delicious!

We didn't have a lot of time before we had to head out the door for church, but we made sure we left enough time after breakfast for Shane to open presents.
It's not a celebration without presents-right?!?!

After church, we came home for the babies to nap, before we headed over to my parents house to celebrate there.

My sister B and I had talked earlier in the week and had decided to celebrate this Fathers Day a little different than usual!

This year we were celebrating the minute to win it way!

Kids versus Dad's--
and whoever won was coming home with this coveted trophy!

The first game we played was "Face the Cookie"

Using only your face, you must move the cookie from your forehead to your mouth!

It was DEFINITELY a lot harder than it looks, but boy was it fun watching people try!

The kids take a turn.

Hud just wanted to eat the cookies-ha!

And he was proud of himself too!!

The next game was called "Bite Me"

We placed three paper bags, of different heights, on the ground and you had pick them up using only your teeth.

My mom was actually really good at this game.

And of course, the kids acted like little pros!

The next game was called...
"A Bit Dicey"

We had to balance six dice on a popsicle stick held in your mouth.

Sophie says..."Ta Da"

The next game we played was...

"Dizzy Mummy"

You had to wind an entire roll of toilet paper around your body by spinning.
It was fun watching people try and stand up after this one was over.
They were SO DIZZY!!

AND for the grand finale....

was a good ole' pie eating competition--
just between the dads

Who could eat the most pie in ONE minute?!?!

Shane totally ROCKED at this one!

And after the competition was over, a little pie war broke out-HA!!

Bless his heart...Corban got "pied"right in the face!!

Everyone had to clean up by taking a nice dip in the pool.

What a GREAT Father's Day celebration!!

And just in case you were wondering...
Corban and Riley were crowned "Champions"!
They not only did such a great job on the games,
but they also were such great sports when they got "pied" by their Daddy-lol!
We all felt like they deserved to walk away with the title this year!

We had so much fun last night that we are already planning a Minute to Win It--beach edition for upcoming family vacation!
CAN'T WAIT!!!
